Chiropractic and Functional Medicine in Grapevine, TX

A chiropractic adjustment can restore spinal alignment and relieve nerve pressure. But what if the pain keeps coming back because something deeper is driving it? At Innovate Health Centers, we combine chiropractic care with functional medicine under one roof, so we treat the spine and the systems behind it at the same time. That means we're not just correcting your alignment; we're finding out why it broke down in the first place. For patients dealing with chronic pain, fatigue, inflammation, or conditions that haven't responded to conventional treatment, this integrated model changes what's possible.

Why Spinal Adjustments Alone Don't Always Solve the Problem

Chiropractic adjustments are one of the most effective non-invasive treatments for musculoskeletal pain. They restore joint mobility, reduce nerve interference, and support the body's ability to heal. But the spine doesn't operate in isolation. A patient with chronic low back pain may also have systemic inflammation fueled by poor gut health, elevated cortisol from unmanaged stress, or a nutritional deficiency that's slowing tissue repair.

When those factors are present, adjustments provide temporary relief, but the pain returns. The structural correction is sound; the internal environment is working against it.

That's where functional medicine enters the picture. Instead of treating the symptom again and again, we investigate what's sustaining it. Combining both approaches means the adjustment holds longer, recovery accelerates, and patients actually get ahead of the problem rather than chasing it. As with any treatment approach, your specific results depend on your individual health profile, and we recommend discussing your full history with a qualified provider before beginning care.

Root-Cause Testing That Changes Your Treatment Plan

Functional medicine brings diagnostic depth that standard chiropractic care doesn't typically include. At Innovate Health, Dr. Payne orders advanced lab panels, including inflammatory markers, hormone assessments, gut microbiome analysis, and metabolic panels, to identify what's happening inside your body alongside what's happening structurally.

Research from Cleveland Clinic shows that patients in functional medicine programs improved physical health scores significantly more than those in standard primary care, with mental health scores improving nearly six times better at 12 months. That kind of outcome data reflects what happens when treatment addresses root causes rather than symptoms alone. For chiropractic patients specifically, this means your care plan isn't built on guesswork. If inflammation is driving your pain, we find it. If a hormonal imbalance is affecting your recovery, we identify it. The testing gives us a map, and your treatment plan follows it. Your provider should always review your full health history before recommending specific tests or treatments.

How Integrated Care Works at Innovate Health

Most chiropractic offices and most functional medicine practices operate separately. Your chiropractor adjusts your spine. Your functional medicine provider runs labs and recommends protocols. They don't talk to each other, and your care plan has gaps neither one sees. We built our practice to eliminate that disconnect.

One Provider, Both Disciplines

Dr. R. Brett Payne, DC, CCNP, leads both the chiropractic and functional medicine sides of your care. He's a Certified Clinical Chiropractic Neurologist with post-graduate training in functional medicine, which means he evaluates your spine, your nervous system, and your internal health as parts of one connected picture. When he performs a spinal assessment, he's also considering how your metabolic health, your inflammation levels, and your lifestyle are affecting your structural condition. That dual lens is rare. Most providers are trained in one discipline or the other; Dr. Payne applies both to every patient.

Medical Oversight Built In

For cases that require medical input, Dr. Nathan Prescott, DO, provides physician oversight within the same practice. As a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine with an emergency medicine background, Dr. Prescott supervises IV therapy, advanced protocols, and any intervention that needs medical-level review. Your providers share your records, review your lab results together, and adjust your plan as a team. No outside referrals. No repeating your story to a new office.

From Evaluation to Personalized Treatment Plan

Your first appointment starts with a thorough evaluation: health history, physical and neurological exam, and a conversation about what's actually going on. Not a twelve-minute visit. Dr. Payne takes time to understand your full picture before recommending anything. From there, if advanced testing is warranted, we order labs targeted to your specific presentation, not a generic panel. When the results come back, your treatment plan combines spinal care with whatever your body actually needs: targeted nutrition, lifestyle modifications, heavy metal testing and detox if indicated, or other interventions matched to your data. Every recommendation has a reason behind it, and you're part of the decision at every step.

This is what integrated care looks like when it's built into the practice from the start, not stitched together from separate providers after the fact. See our full range of services.

Conditions That Respond to This Combined Approach

Chiropractic functional medicine isn't designed for a single complaint. It's built for patients whose conditions have multiple contributing factors, the kind that don't resolve with one type of treatment alone. We work with patients managing chronic back and neck pain that hasn't responded to adjustments or medication alone, autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto's and rheumatoid arthritis where immune dysregulation intersects with nervous system function, persistent fatigue and brain fog tied to metabolic or hormonal imbalance, and digestive issues where the gut-spine connection plays a documented role.

Sixty percent of American adults live with at least one chronic disease, and many of those conditions involve overlapping systems that conventional care treats separately. When structural, biochemical, and lifestyle factors are addressed together, patients often see improvements that neither approach achieved in isolation. Results vary by individual, and we always recommend consulting with your healthcare provider about whether this model fits your specific situation.

What the Research Shows About Integrated Care

The evidence supporting both chiropractic care and functional medicine has grown substantially in the past decade. NIH-published research increasingly recognizes chiropractic's role in pain management, nervous system function, and reduced reliance on pharmaceutical interventions. Functional medicine's evidence base includes peer-reviewed data showing measurable improvements in inflammatory markers, metabolic health, and patient-reported quality of life when root-cause protocols are applied.

The integration of these two disciplines is a newer area of study, and the research is still maturing. Large-scale randomized trials specifically isolating the combined model are limited, and we're transparent about that. What the existing data does show is that patients receiving multi-modal care, where structural, nutritional, and lifestyle factors are addressed together, report better outcomes across pain reduction, energy, sleep quality, and functional mobility than those receiving either type of care alone. As the evidence continues to build, the direction is clear: treating the whole person produces results that treating isolated symptoms does not. We encourage patients to discuss any treatment approach with their primary care provider.

Getting Started with Chiropractic Functional Medicine

If you've been managing a chronic condition through conventional care without lasting improvement, or if your chiropractic visits help temporarily but the same problems keep returning, the missing piece may be what's happening inside your body, not just along your spine. That's the gap this integrated model is designed to close.

Your Free Discovery Call

At Innovate Health Centers, we start every new patient relationship with a free fifteen-minute Discovery Call. It's a real conversation with Dr. Payne, not a coordinator or a sales pitch. You share what you've been dealing with, ask your questions, and get an honest assessment of whether our approach fits your situation. There's no obligation and no pressure to commit on the spot.

What Your First Visit Looks Like

If you decide to move forward, your first in-office visit is built around you. Thorough intake. Neurological and physical evaluation. Time to talk through your history, your symptoms, and what you've already tried. From there, we determine what testing makes sense for your specific case, order it, and build a personalized treatment plan once we have real data to work with. Your plan evolves as you progress; it's not a fixed template applied the same way to every patient.

Insurance and Cost Transparency

We accept most major insurance plans, including United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, and Multiplan. Advanced functional medicine testing often falls outside standard insurance coverage, and we're upfront about costs before you commit to anything. No surprises.

You deserve a care team that sees the full picture, treats the actual cause, and coordinates your care without making you manage it yourself across multiple offices. That's what we built this practice to do. Schedule a free Discovery Call today, or call us at (817) 329-3552. We're at 4821 Merlot Ave., Suite 240, Grapevine, TX 76051, serving patients from Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, Flower Mound, Bedford, Euless, and the surrounding DFW area.
